Domaine Chapelle de Blagny Rouge 1er Cru “Sous le Dos d’Ane” 2017. The terroir is composed of limestone, clay, and a unique combination of minerals that give the wine its unique and unmistakable flavor. The 2017 vintage has a beautiful ruby color and a complex nose with aromas of red fruits, spices, and a hint of oak.
On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied with ripe tannins, a well-balanced acidity, and a long finish. With its unique terroir, Domaine Chapelle de Blagny Rouge 1er Cru “Sous le Dos d’Ane” 2017 is a testament to the fantastic history of Burgundy and, not least, Domaine Chapelle de Blagny, and a reminder of the region’s long-standing tradition of producing quality wines.
Fermentation takes place in vats (100% destemmed harvest). If a healthy harvest allows, we keep the grapes in a cool, oxygen-free environment for 5 to 8 days (cold maceration before fermentation). Then the alcoholic fermentation begins, lasting about six to ten days, during which we proceed to the remontage, aeration, and resting stages depending on time and year.
The yeast gradually converts the sugar into alcohol, releasing heat and carbon dioxide. The heat enables the successful extraction of pigments contained in the grape skins, and the alcohol extracts the precious tannins necessary for a well-balanced wine. Together with the pigments, these express the wonderful aromas of our wines for many years.
When the alcoholic fermentation is nearly complete, we keep everything at a temperature of 30°C for four to six days to extract the remaining sugar and tannins still present in the skins and seeds, thereby promoting the expression of the fruit.
Then we collect the free-run juice and press what remains in the vat.
This pressing is done gradually. At each pressing stage, the extracted juices are tasted, allowing us to retain only the best tannins.
After a short phase in the vats to let the coarse lees settle, we put the juice into oak barrels (about 30% new barrels) for around a year. This is followed by transfer to vats.
One of the most fascinating aspects of history is the way it can be traced through the land itself. This is especially true when it comes to the world of wine, where the concept of terroir is of utmost importance. Domaine Chapelle de Blagny is a great example of this, as it is a vineyard that has been shaped by the unique characteristics of its location.
Located in the heart of Burgundy, this vineyard benefits from a terroir known for producing some of the finest wines in the world. The combination of soil, climate, and topography all play a role in creating the perfect conditions for growing grapes that are rich in flavor and complexity. As a result, Domaine Chapelle de Blagny has become synonymous with quality, and its wines are highly sought after by connoisseurs around the globe. With a range of appellations to choose from, there is something for every taste at this historic vineyard.
The Blagny terroir, which is no more than 40 hectares in size, actually contains 20% of the “1er cru” designations in the municipalities of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, which are known for their white wine excellences. The soil here, consisting of marl-clay-limestone, is just as suitable for reds as it is for whites. The vines are planted around the village of Blagny and are located in the highest part of the Premiers Crus.
